MANVEL TRICE III

Manvel is the chairperson of the firm's Sports Law Department (BKFSPORTSLAW.pdf).  The firm has formed BKF Sports Management to service the needs of prospective and current professional athletes in individual and team sports.  BKF Sports was formed in 2007 and has represented athletes in the NFL, CFL and AFL.

Manvel is a certified contract advisor with the National Football League Player's Association.  Understanding the complex needs of his athletes, Manvel has partnered with a number of financial advisors, training facilities, public relation firms, dieticians, and scouting services to meet each particular need of his athletes.

Manvel recently signed long-standing client Linebacker Charleston Hughes to a three year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles.  Hughes is a graduate of Northwood University and was a starting defensive end for the 2008 Grey Cup Champion Calgary Stampeders.

Manvel Trice practices in all general areas of law with an emphasis in commercial litigation, sports law, insurance defense and landlord-tenant.  Manvel's litigation experience includes defense of private entities involved in special assessment disputes and insurance claims. Manvel has counseled and advised a number of schools and sports teams on NCAA compliance and enforcement issues including but not limited to academic eligibility, student-athlete transfers and rules education.   Manvel has counseled private and public entities on Freedom of Information Act issues.

From 1999-2000, Mr. Trice was a Research Assistant at Michigan State University-Detroit College of Law. Manvel conducted research on human rights related matters, including the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. Mr. Trice was also an intern in the United States Judge Advocate General Corp at Fort Sam Houston, where he provided legal advice to commissioned officers and participated in involuntary separation proceedings.

Manvel received his legal degree from Michigan State University-Detroit College of Law (J.D., magna cum laude, 2001) and his undergraduate from Saginaw Valley State University (BAS, summa cum laude, 1998). He is a member of the Michigan State Bar (admitted 2001), is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan and is a member of the American Bar Association, Saginaw County Bar Association, Sports Lawyers Association and the National Football League Player's Association.
